Hi I love the blanket song. I saw you at the pioneer place a few years back myself and my three sisters really enjoyed the show. I also saw you at the coffee place in stony plain I was playing and singing there myself. I only went a couple of times but it was fun. Have you ever gone to fiddlers roost? I think they have open mike on Thursdays its a lot of fun and there are a lot of talented people there. I am moving back to B.C in mid April. There is a big out door show in Kaslo in August I think some very interesting places to play all around B.C maybe you could give the interior of B.C a try for all of the festivals in the summer you would have a lot of fun.

Be warned that I will use that tactic as a last resort if we have to wait too much longer.
Looking forward to attending your next "gig" and hoping it too will be soon.
Yours,

Hi Karla - I cannot express my gratitude enough for singing 'What Else Can I Do' at Liana's Walk for Hope last night. Your soft words brough a sense of hope and comfort in these trying times and was a perfect compliment for our candlelight walk in memory of Liana. It was very much appreciated by all in attendance. Wishing you continued health, friendship and success.

I just came from a funeral today, and your song "What else Can I Do" was played. It was so fitting and so caring and gentle, and one so many of us can relate to - a gorgeous song, and you sing it so beautifully! You've truly been blessed with a wonderful voice and the abiity to create impactful lyrics! I am going out tomorrow to buy your album! I can't wait to hear it all, and to hear you live one day!

When I heard your voice on tv one morning I thought you were the human embodiment of the sound of the loon in the wilderness. I couldn't wait for your cd to come out and of course I ran out and bought it, but I was dissappointed. There was just too much background clutter that drowned your voice and I thought what a shame. I'm hoping in your next cd your voice will stand almost solo and that's how I long to hear it like the first time accompanied by one instrument, your guitar. Simple is almost always the best. all the best, Teresa from Spruce Grove

August 31, 2007

Hi -

I was at the Open Air Engineered theatre in Calgary for your January 2007 concert. Your song "What Else Can I Do?" had a real impact on me. In December, 2006 both my mother and boyfriend passed away. I had just finished a beautiful quilt for my boyfriend's Christmas present but he did not get to see it. Instead, he was wrapped in my quilt for his funeral.

You are correct, at a time of tremendous grief, there are no words that can comfort us. With your song, I can see my boyfriend wrapped in his blanket keeping safe and warm. He loves his "blankies".

Thank you for the song that touched my heart so deeply.

Hi! You were so gracious in speaking with Mar'ce and me (the writer-women)at Folk Fest yesterday.
Your lyricks have so inspired my new protagonist. If you're interested in coming to SC let me know. I'll try to get gigs for you( although, to be honest I've had no experience in do such a thing. Hi, Karla!
It's Susan, your "Nunsense" friend. I just wanted to let you know that your music continues to inspire and enlighten. I had the good fortune of seeing you open for Ruthie Foster in February. I was absolutely blown away by the song about the POW who changed his outlook from "Why Me?" to "Show Me!" That has been my mantra now, as I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. I refuse to ask "Why Me?!" I have kept asking God, "Show me!" I start chemo tomorrow and will be singing this song -- albeit from memory (when does this next album get released?!) Thank-you SO much for the clarity and inspiration!
Love you much!!

My first contact with your song "What else can I do" was about a 1/2 hour before my mothers funeral and I had been doing "fine", felt strong enough to tackle the day and then I heard your song....it opened this floodgate that I had held soooo well for almost 10 days...just wanted to say thank you...it was necessary and as I sat at her grave one year later our time was spent with your music....I wish I knew what inspired this song...I'm sure you've had that question before....if I may ask....

I have just gotten off the phone from a lengthy and deep conversation from a good friend who had recently separated from a loving relationship. I myself have experienced a similar relationship. And after all of this I happened to listen to a song of yours on Magic 99. So I opened up your website, and read your lyrics, which sparked many emotions in myself.(I also lsitened to you music, absolutely INCREDIBLE)
Thank you for your honest, and deep passion for honouring who you are, and sharing this with your beloved audience. I hope, and pray that your audience gets bigger and bigger, and that you continue to respect and honour your Self and share this in your lyrics as you bring your talents and gifts to and with others, Blessings and Peace Karla, Blaine

February 16, 2007

I first saw you at "Alberta Session" two years ago. You became one of my favourite singers. I waiting, not so patiently, for the release of your CD and it was so worth the wait. Then I saw you when you opened for Ruthie Foster last year. I had goose bumps when you sang. I now will get to see you two more times, first at the Ruthie Foster concert and then this year's "Alberta Session", and I can't wait for either. I may not see you perform live often but it is always an extra special treat. I think you are truly amazing. I'd say more but I'm at a loss for words that could properly describe how wonderful I think you are.

May you get back (double) all the joy you send to other.

Choose to live happy,
Elaine

There are a number of venues in southern Ontario and Michigan that we're connected with that would book you. I hope to see/hear you coming through our area soon!

Hi Karla haven't seen you for a while. I am making a point to come to homefest on Sunday. I am bringing my daughter with me. I have been playing a lot of guitar and at times I am even a little pleased with my progress. I bought a new guitar it is a larivee made out of australian black wood. I love it. I have started my middle daughter playing too, she is a real hippie chick, I am so proud of her. She and a girl friend attended a peace conference in Edmonton they were the youngest participants. I am so glad that I found you thru magic99 web site!!! I have caught this song twice on this station and fell in love with the lyrics instantly, only both times they played it I happened to be driving in my car and could not write the artist name down, to make a long story short I knew the laast name but was struggling to get your first name, it was a toss up between carla, karla, karly, carny??? All I remembered was the d.j. stating that you were from Spruce Grove!!! Where can I purchase this cd? I am so thankful that I turned on the station the day that I did and heard that song, it was very calming and made me appreciate some of the things that I have been neglecting! Sorry to rambble I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the song and hope to find your disc to get to hear the rest of what you can share, I thought the song was called blanket but perhaps it is called " what else can I do" ??

Wow!
You know music hits that core of one's spirit at any given time. I am suffering from a disability waiting for surgery and there are days when the pain is more than I can take. Your lyrics have captured what I am feeling and what those around me feel. They don't know what to do...but getting a blanket, giving a shoulder, saying a prayer are exactly what I need.
I have been touched....forever.

I have an "extra" job driving limos in the evenings and on weekends, and this past Saturday I had some wait time and was listening to CBC Radio One. Don't even know the name of the show, but was from the Yardbird in Edmonton. You sang "What else can I do?" and "Shining". I have to say I loved both, especially the former. The gent from Saskatchewan playing guitar was terrific also. Is your CD available in major outlets? e.g. HMV or similar. I look forward to picking it up soon. Best of luck to you for ever continuing success. Maybe you can even carpet the chicken coop. Allen.

Hi Karla,
Last fall my best friend was dying of breast cancer. The special Alberta Bound was on and since she loved the Alberta music scene, we watched it together. Your song made the room go completely silent, and we all just sat there and listened and held hands. She died the next day. Your song brings back that memory, not in a sad way, but just the way we just sat there and held hands. Thank you Karla. (I am listening to you on CBC right now).

Another person who saw the CBC special last night and fell in love with your voice. Blown away by "What else can I do" as many were. I think we have all been in that place where someone you love has lost someone they love and there are no words, nothing you can buy to heal, just being there sometimes helps....you captured that helplessness in a song...and I am sending your CD, along with a beautiful blanket to my aunt in South Africa who recently lost her only son, my cousin.
Thank you for sharing your gift, please don't stop writing and performing.

Saw the CBC special and was very taken with your lovely voice and music. I often give blankets to people for gifts for their children so the song of course touched me and I will share it with all my friends as soon as I can find it in local music store. I see you are heading to Comox in July I hope you enjoy our Valley and I hope there are still some tickets left. Much success in your life.

May 21, 2006

I saw a CBC programme last night that featured you, and I can't tell you how much I fell in love with your sound. The icing on the cake was when your song "What Else Can I Do" came on and your brief introduction about how the song came about... my sister-in-law has but days to live having been diagnosed only two weeks ago with end of stages liver cancer. As she slips in and out of consciousness, I watch my widowed mother-in-law and husband both writhing in emotional pain, feeling absolutely powerless. Thank you for putting my thoughts and feelings into song ... aching for my mother-in-law and my husband...and what else can I do? Thank you....
